Please email Coach Mudd (JeffreyCMudd@katyisd.org) for a link to the SportsYou page where information and communication can be found.
There will be a playing tryout in August. Date and details are announced on the SportsYou page. There will be a scorekeeper with each group to make sure all of the scores are accurate. Cheating, throwing clubs, profanity, or being disrespectful to other players will not be tolerated. I highly recommend you play summer tournaments, however it is not a requirement. This is by far, the fastest way to improve your game.
Tee times will be assigned one week before the tryout dates and will be posted on our website/SportsYou page. If anyone has any questions please feel free to email Coach Mudd.
Objectives:
Keep as many OTHS golfers that the golf courses will allow us due to space restrictions.
Maintain safety and proper supervision.
Create a competitive program of players designed to play on the OTHS competition tournament teams at a very high level.
*ALL ATHLETES MUST HAVE A PHYSICAL ON FILE WITH THE OTHS TRAINER AND ALL ELECTRONIC PAPERWORK COMPLETE BEFORE TRYING OUT FOR THE TEAM. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.*

FAQ:
What will I have to shoot at tryouts to make the team?
It depends. Juniors and Seniors need to shoot better than underclassman as they are expected to play on Varsity and have more experience.
What else do I need to know before I tryout?
The Tompkins golf team is not for absolute beginners. The expectation is that you know how to play golf at a competitive level. Tournament experience is an expectation. Knowledge of etiquette, rules, and coachability are requirements.
AFTER TRYOUTS
Golfers making the team will be placed in either 1st or 7th period. The 7th period is reserved for more skilled/older athletes.
1st Period 6:45am-7:45am
Golfers must provide their own transportation.
We will be practicing on the range as well as playing as many holes when possible. It is important that golfers arrive on time and be picked up on time. Students will have an athletic golf locker and will have time to shower/change before class. The bell to begin second period rings at 8:27am (regular schedule) or 8:22am (enrichment/pep rally schedule).
Typical weekly schedule is:
Monday - Meadowbrook Farms
Tuesday – On campus short game
Wednesday – On campus short game
Thursday – Falcon Point
Friday – On campus weight room
7th Period 1:45pm – varies
Golfers must provide their own transportation. We will be practicing on the range as well as playing as many holes as possible. The schedule will be relayed to the golfers verbally, posted on the website and through email as to which course and how long practices will be.
Typical weekly schedule is:
Monday – Cinco Ranch Driving Range
Tuesday – Meadowbrook Farms Range
Wednesday – Play (9 hole qualifying)
Thursday – Practice on own
Friday – On campus weight room
Freshman/JV tournaments - The ladder will be used to determine the group of golfers (boys/girls) that will go to the tournaments.
Top Varsity Tournaments – The top 4 that qualify will go with the 5th golfer being a coach’s choice for both boys and girls tournaments.
It is strongly recommended that prospective golfers play in a local tournament series.
**Players will be placed due to on course scores, coach observation, attitude, and effort**
If a student-athlete cannot make the grades necessary or has behavior issues in the classroom, they will not be a part of the Tompkins Golf Program. There is no tolerance for poor grades, effort, or misbehaving in the classroom.
