Working with Stakeholders
At Morton Ranch Elementary, school counselors play a vital role in working with stakeholders, including parents, to create a supportive and nurturing learning environment for all students. They collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other professionals to identify and address students' academic, social, and emotional needs. They also work closely with parents to help them understand their child's strengths, abilities, and challenges.
The school counselors at Morton Ranch Elementary provide various services to parents, including parent education and support, individual and group counseling, and referral to community resources. They work with parents to develop strategies for supporting their child's academic and personal growth, such as setting goals, establishing routines, and creating a positive home environment.
In addition, the school counselors at Morton Ranch Elementary are actively involved in developing and implementing school-wide programs and initiatives designed to promote student success and well-being. They also provide professional development and training to teachers and other school staff on topics related to student mental health, behavior management, and academic support.
Overall, the school counselors at Morton Ranch Elementary are dedicated to working collaboratively with parents and other stakeholders to ensure that all students have the support and resources they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
During the spring semester, counselors noticed that students were arriving late to school and missing breakfast. We wanted to decrease the amount of students arriving tardy and missing breakfast. Counselors understand that students need to eat a healthy breakfast in order to be successful at school. Information is often shared in our school's weekly SMORE newsletter. We provided some reminders for parents in order to minimize late students.
A Request for School Counselor form on our school website allows parents to submit their questions, concerns, or comments about their child. The messages are confidential and are only viewed by counselors. Our front office staff, teachers, and other faculty members can share this link with parents/guardians at any time. Anyone can directly enter their request by clicking the link. Counselors are able to review the submission via email and can respond within 1-2 business days. A QR code is also posted outside counseling offices so that visitors can scan and submit their requests from their cell phones.

Personal Health and Safety
Passed during the 87th (2nd) Legislative Session, SENATE BILL 9 (SEN. HUFFMAN|WEST) required schools beginning in the 2022-23 school year to educate students on child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking.
These topics are also included in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for elementary, middle, and high school health education. Under Texas statute, parents must choose to “opt-in” their child to participate in the lessons that address:
Child Abuse,
Family Violence
Dating Violence
Sex Trafficking.
Elementary and junior high school counselors deliver lessons on abuse and violence to students in 5th-8th grade. Students currently enrolled in high school Health receive instruction on the required health TEKS specific to human growth and development, abuse, and violence.
