What is it? The AP Human Geography Summer Bridge Program is an optional course that provides students with the background knowledge and skills to better access course content, and ultimately be more successful in the course and on the AP exam. A face-to-face writing workshop is part of the program to support writing in AP Human Geography. This is not a graded course that will impact a student’s GPA.

Who should take it?

  • Students who will register to take AP Human Geography as a 9th grader in the fall of 2020.
  • Students who have considered registering for AP Human Geography, would like additional support, and are willing to add the course during the course selection process.

How long will the course take? The online portion of the Summer Bridge Program is designed to be completed within 2 weeks. Students have the option to complete either Session 1: June 8-19 OR Session 2: July 13-24, and will indicate their choice during registration. The writing workshop dates will be provided during registration. Session 1 registration deadline is May 29th and Session 2 is July 3rd.

What is the cost? This course is grant funded; there is no charge.

How will students register? Students will register using the following link: https://tinyurl.com/APHumanSummer2020. More detailed information on accessing the online course and writing workshop will be sent only to registrants.

What are the technology requirements? Students need access to Canvas via an electronic device with internet capabilities. Contact Amanda Ankney at amandalankney@katyisd.org if internet access is needed.

What is included in the course? This course is created with a team of experienced AP teachers and experts and features a writing workshop. The following online modules include:

  • Videos and interactivities to address different learning styles and keep students engaged
  • Checkpoints and quizzes that offer immediate feedback to gauge student understanding
  • A pretest and comprehensive final assessment provide robust reporting that will show growth and help identify knowledge gaps.

Who will have access to student data? AP Human Geography teachers will support students during the Summer Bridge Program by maintaining designated office hours. Data will be collected and provided to the student’s 9th grade AP Human Geography teacher. The program will provide a unique opportunity for teachers to pinpoint students’ strengths and challenges in order for teachers to purposefully plan targeted instruction.
