What is a Sterling Scholar?
A Sterling Scholar is a high school senior who is publicly recognized and awarded for the pursuit of excellence in scholarship, leadership and citizenship in the State of Utah.
A potential Sterling Scholar presents an all-encompassing portfolio on their work in a specific category and is interviewed by judges in the category’s field. Sterling Scholars are awarded at the high school and finals levels. At the awards ceremony, finalists in 15 categories are announced.
Requirements
You must be involved in your category.
Composite ACT score of 17 or higher.
No Incompletes or F grades on your transcripts.
Commit to region competition.
Be able to perform (if applicable) in the categories of Music, Dance, or Speech & Drama.
Commit to weekly meeting January-March.

Process
Choose a category. Choose an area that you love or in which you have the most accomplishments.
Prepare. Make a list of all your awards, honors, and achievements.
Gather. Find all your awards, certificates, medals, articles, photos, etc. that document your achievements.
Build. You will create a digital portfolio highlighting your achievements.
Interview. You will gain key interview skills through mock interviews.
