COVID-19 Rapid Testing Available

Kairos Public Schools offers Rapid Antigen Testing to all staff and scholars using Abbott Binex Now Test Kits. To make an appointment for testing for your scholar(s) please contact the main office at 707-453-7234

Parent/Guardian Consent and Waiver forms are required to obtain testing from Kairos Public Schools.

Other testing locations can be found here.

Physical Distancing Requirements

Kairos is following the California Department of Public Health’s “COVID-19 Public Health Guidance for K-12 Schools in California”. Recent evidence in the CDPH guidance indicates that in-person instruction can occur safely without minimum physical distancing requirements when other mitigation measures are in place. This is consistent with CDC K-12 guidance.

Plexiglass Barriers are at all scholars desks.

Vaccinations

Is the COVID-19 vaccine required?

No. The COVID-19 vaccine is not a required vaccination for scholars or staff. However, per CDPH on August 12, 2021 Governor Newsom will now require all school staff to be vaccinated or be tested weekly.

Close Contact Exposure

Potential COVID-19 Exposure

Definition of a “close contact”?

A close contact is someone who was within 6 feet of someone with COVID-19 for at least 15 minutes within a 24 hour period, during the time that the person with COVID-19 was infectious.

If a scholar is designated as a “close contact” to someone who has a confirmed case of COVID-19 what do they need to do?

If you know that your student is a “close contact”, inform our Health Office at 707-453-7234 or Healthgroup@kairospublicschools.org . Our Health Team will inform you if your scholar has been designated a “close contact”.

Close contacts will be offered testing if they wish to pursue the potential option of participating in modified quarantine. No COVID-19 testing will mean at-home isolation of 10 full calendar days.

NOTIFICATION OF EXPOSURE:

Only people identified as potential close contacts will be contacted about a potential exposure. The school will not release any identifiable information about the exposed case to protect the privacy of the person.

There is still an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 in any place where people are present. By attending in-person learning, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.

Modified Quarantine

Scholars remain in school after an exposure in which both the student and the individual with COVID-19 were face coverings, this is called “modified quarantine.”

Modified quarantine involves a period of time during which students may continue in-person instruction but are not encouraged to participate all extracurricular activities at school, including sports, and activities within community settings.

Who qualifies to participate in “modified quarantine?”

Asymptomatic unvaccinated students exposed to COVID-19 may qualify for a modified quarantine.

Fully vaccinated students exposed to COVID-19 do not need do any form of quarantine/isolation following a known exposure if asymptomatic.

When students are attending school during “modified quarantine” they continue to be required to wear face coverings indoors.

Face Covering Protocols

Per CDPH requirement all K-12 students must wear face covering indoors unless otherwise exempted by a medical or mental health condition. Additionally, adults in K-12 schools will be required to wear face coverings when sharing indoor spaces with scholars.

Face Coverings will be optional outdoors. Parents & Guardians who desire for their children to wear face coverings outdoors must communicate that with them directly.

Daily Wellness Checks

Parents & Guardians will be reminded of daily wellness checks from the school's App. We encourage everyone with symptoms to please stay home.

Families should screen their student(s) for the following additional symptoms:

  • Cough

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Fatigue

  • Muscle or body aches

  • Headache

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Sore throat

  • Congestion or runny nose

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Diarrhea

Families may use the CDC’s COVID-19 Screening Tool to assist them in daily screenings

Testing Positive

Should a scholar return a positive COVID-19 test result, scholars will be required to have their scholar begin their at-home isolation.

Scholars may return to campus when they have satisfactorily completed the following criteria:

  • At least 10 days have passed since symptom onset; AND

  • At least 24 hours have passed since the resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications, AND other symptoms have improved.

A communication protocol has been established which involves informing staff and families if they are considered a close contact.
