Geographic Exceptions (GE) Procedures

  1. Geographic Exceptions (GE) are accepted between January 1st and March 1st. All GE requests for the following school year must be in by March 1st.

  2. A GE Request Form can be obtained at your Home School (for students new to the DOE) or at the current school in which your child is enrolled. Do not go to the receiving school as they will not give you a form.

  3. The form must be submitted to the Principal of Home School or current school in which your child is enrolled, and must be accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

  4. The forms will be processed and all parents will be notified by mail as to whether they are accepted or denied.

  5. If your child is accepted, you will be given a deadline by which you must either confirm or decline. If you do not confirm by that date, your application will no longer be considered.

  6. If your request is denied, you may appeal to the Complex Area Superintendent within 10 days.

  7. An approved GE means that your child will be allowed to attend the school through graduation. However, if you ever withdraw your child and then attempt to return to the school, you must go through the GE process again, and you are not guaranteed approval.
