How to apply for Financial Aid and scholarships

MONEY FROM THE COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY

All families should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®). Doing so ensures you are considered for federal student aid. In addition, colleges use FAFSA to award their own grants, scholarships, and loans. We encourage you to fill the FAFSA out in October. Check FAFSA deadlines here.

The CSS Profile is used by some colleges to determine institutional, nonfederal, aid. If a college requires the CSS profile, you can start the process on/after October 1.

Check the Financial Aid office of each school to see if their scholarship deadline is earlier than their application deadline. Also check to see if you have to fill out a separate scholarship application in addition to the application for admission.

MONEY FROM LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS

For a list of available scholarships, check your SchooLinks account. You can also consider filling out a profile at FastWeb or Scholarships.com. Most local scholarships ask for a resume.
