Artificial Intelligence bias is when an AI tool makes a wrong decision because the data used for training didn't treat all people, places, or things accurately.
Artificial Intelligence is trained using real world data. If the data that is used while training an AI tool is biased, that tool can then be biased as well.
Commonsense.org has created a few great lessons to help lead students in conversations and explorations around AI bias.
Choosing AI tools that are free from bias is important for ensuring fair and equitable outcomes for all students. As ACPS is vetting more and more AI tools, we are checking for bias. Bias can greatly effect how educational tools and systems treat students. Teachers play a big part in understanding, monitoring, and advocating for fair practices in AI.
Please see our Approved Tools page before using new AI tools. This page shows which tools have already been through the thorough review process.
AI tools do not always provide accurate information. It is important to periodically check the information provided by an AI tool, by cross checking it with other tools. The ACPS vetting process also looks carefully at accuracy when reviewing tools. Please see the Approved Tools page for more information.
