Harbor Seals

Introduction

Harbor Seals are amazing mammals, they are adorable and incredible, they are also carnivores that eat fish and squid.

Physical Features

An adult Harbor Seal can weigh 230 pounds and can be 6 feet long. They each have a different pattern of spots on there back. Harbor Seals can be white, gray, or brown.

Habitat

Harbor Seals live on rocky shores north from the equator. Harbor Seals live in north America and Europe.

Behavior

Harbor Seals don't swim more than 20 miles away from shore. They spend about half of their lives in water. The other half is spent on land.

Life Cycle

When a Harbor Seal is born it's called a pup. Once a year Harbor Seals get together to mate, nine months after they mate the female Harbor Seal has a pup.

A Harbor Seals skin produces special oil that covers the seals fur, the special oils makes the seals fur coat waterproof.

Additional Fact

A Harbor Seal can sleep on sandy beach or in the ocean. When a seal is sleeping in the sea it floats upright with it's head sticking out of the water.
