Sea Otters

Introduction

Sea Otters are amazing creatures! They are mammals that live in the sea. They are the smallest sea mammals in the world.


Physical Features

Sea Otters are small creatures. A male sea otter is able to grow six feet long and a female is able to grow four feet long. Most sea otters have brown, thick fur with silver frosting.

Habitat

Sea Otters live in the North west Pacific ocean. They live sort of close to the U.S.S.R. Most of the sea otters time is spent in the water. Sea Otters are mostly seen floating in kelp beds.

Behavior

Most Sea Otters can dive up to 180 feet under water to find food. A Sea Otters mom will take care of the baby for many months. Also Sea Otters don't swim more than 1 1/2 Miles a day unless they are thretened or endangered.

Life Cycle

Sea Otters only give birth in the water and have a baby every 2 years. The pups depend on there mother for months. Pups have brown fur when they are born. All of the pups moms teach there pups how to swim so they can go and live on there own.

Pups or baby Sea Otters are less than 2 Feet long at birth.

A Sea Otter always wash themselves after a meal.
