SAM Labs

1. Intro Lesson - Taking Care of Materials

2. Lesson 1 - Compare Video: Watch the video, practice using the Compare Block

3. Lesson 2 - Build a Smart Light that will come on at dusk.

4. Lesson 3 - Loops Video: Watch the video, practice building a loop.

5. Lesson 4 - Build a Smart Doorbell that can alert a hearing impaired individual that someone has arrived.

6. Lesson 5 - Debug It: How can we reset the system? Get the Debug It directions for resetting this system from Paden.

7. Lesson 6 - Optimize your Smart Doorbell to work for both hearing and non-hearing impaired individuals - be creative!

8. Lesson 7 - Watch this SAM Lab video, then build a wheeled vehicle that: goes in a circle, goes straight, turns left or right.

Ozobots Part 2

Learn about Counters code

  • Points are the flipped version of one another

  • If Ozoboth walks across a code in one direction the ponts increase, and the points decrease when walked across from another direction. Maybe you didn't intend that!

  • To use point codes: 1) enable code in the right direction, 2) Ozobot must go over at least 5 point codes to "stop". 3) Ozobot will make a noise and will perform an exciting display once the counter has reached zero.

  • Make a zigzag or hexagon enable code & five -1 counters. If your code works, you will get the noise and dance after the fifth -1 counter code.

  • Now do the Rabbit activity.

Learn about Ozoblockly: a way to program Ozobot on your computer

Magellan's Journey

Who is Ferdinand Magellan?

  1. Click on the link above to learn about Magellan and see his picture. Read the intro paragraph for the big idea about Magellan, then skim and scan to find interesting information about him. Spend five minutes learning about Magellan, then move on.

  2. Cut out continent pieces, glue to large paper.

  3. Use this link to see a Map of Magellan's Journey

  4. Draw Magellan's route around the world on your map.

  5. Program Ozobot using Ozoblockly (computer) coding to trace Magellan's route.

  6. Program Ozobot using line coding to trace Magellan's route.
