Among Us is a popular online video game that came out in 2018 by a company called InnerSloth. The main goal is to find who the imposter is before you are eliminated. To every game (board game or online) there are rules to follow and important things you need to know.

Ms. Chang is a first time player and doesn’t know how to play. Write a 5 paragraph essay explaining the 3 most important “need to know” facts of the game so I understand how to play.

Step 1: T.A.K

You first need to identify:

T = Topic: What are you writing about?

A = Audience: Who are you writing to? This is important because it would determine your vocabulary choice of words.

K = Keywords: What does your paper need to consist of?

Step 2: Brainstorm

Then you need to brainstorm ideas on your topic. After you're done, choose the top 3 you want to talk about in your paper.

Things to consider when choosing your 3 choices:

Are these ideas the most important about the topic?
Are they all different? (You don't want to talk about the same thing)
3. Are you able to elaborate on them? (tell me more?

Step 3: Color-Code

In this step, it's important to organize your writing. We use the colors Green, Yellow, and Red/Pink>

Green = Introduction/Topic Sentence

Yellow = 3 Big Ideas (Ideas you chose from your circle map)

Red/Pink = Details (Tell me more)

This plan doesn't involve writing in complete sentences. These are just notes to yourself, where later on you will turn them into complete sentences.

Step 4: Topic Sentence/Conclusion

In your sentence, you need to include the TOPIC & what you paper is going to be about.

Number Statement: Follow these three important need to know facts and you'll be an expert player in the online game: "Among Us".

Quality Question: Do you know the most important rules or facts in order to play Among Us?

Situation, Stance: Even though Among Us is a social deduction game, there are some need to know facts in order to play the game successfully.

When you're done, choose 1 to use for your Introduction & the other for your conclusion.

Step 5: Introduction

Turn your introduction paragraph into complete sentences. An Intro paragraph consist of 2 things:

Your topic sentence
Your three big ideas (yellow) in a complete sentence.

Ms. Chang's introduction paragraph:

Do you know the most important rules or facts in order to play the online game Among Us? Some of the things you need to know in order to play it successfully is you need to have an alibi, you need to complete tasks, and never trust anyone in the game. Every man for themselves!!!

Step 6: Body Paragraph (Big Ideas)

Next is to take your 3 Big Idea paragraphs and turn them into complete sentences. Look at your color-code plan and change your 3 yellow dots + your 3 red/pink details for each big idea and turn them into complete sentences.

An example is below:

In order to play, you need to first have an alibi. Having an alibi is important because it makes you less suspicious. Having an alibi also gives proof and reasonings that you're safe since you've been with someone the whole time. It also helps to catch the imposter by process of elimination among the crewmates.

The second fact that you should know is about completing tasks. It's important to complete tasks because that's a way to win the game. If you and your crewmates complete all the tasks before the imposter eliminates you, you win the game. If you are the imposter, you can fake your tasks by pretending to do them. This lets the crewmates know that you're not the imposter. Clarifying your location to crewmates is important so they'll know what task you were doing and where you were. This reassures your group that you're not the imposter.

Step 7: Conclusion Paragraph

Now it's time to turn your last green dot into complete sentences. In your conclusion paragraph, you need to RESTATE your 3 big ideas (3 yellow) dots, NOT your details (red/pink dots). This paragraph needs to include:

Conclusion Starter
Your topic sentence (from your 4-square)
RESTATE your 3 big ideas (3 yellow dots)
One sentence that leaves an impression on the reader.

As a result, you need to follow these three important need to know facts and you'll be an expert player in Among Us. Having an alibi, completing tasks, and never trusting anyone are major strategies to perform in order to win. Red sus!!!

Step 8: Edit & Revise

In this step, you need to look over your 5 paragraphs and revise your paper. There are things you need to look for to improve your paper:

Check for spelling
Check for grammar
Check to see if you need to change some words to make it 5th grade vocabulary
Check for punctuations
You may edit: take out or add more details in your paragraphs
