Online Etiquette

online Behavior is as important as behavior in a face-to-face classroom

Before the Online Class Starts

  1. Device is charged or you have plugged the device into a charger

  2. Make sure you have steady, internet connection

  3. Test your volume with device on the speaker or headphones (test microphone too)

  4. Have paper, pens, or other school supplies nearby in case you need to write something down

DURING ONLINE CLASS

  1. Students mute microphone while the teacher is talking

  1. Unless there is a discussion taking place, students do not need to turn microphone on

  1. Students should not type unnecessary comments in the chat box. When the teacher gives instructions for questions, students may type your question in the chat box

  1. The teacher will be taking a screen shot of the chat box after every class session

  1. If a student violates any established policies or rules of the DOE (outlined in Chapter 19), the teacher will document the violation by taking a screen shot of the misbehavior and will remove the student from the online session. Parents and Administration will be notified immediately.

Interruptions in Internet Connectivity

What do I do?

  • If a teacher is running late, students continue attempting to log in to Google Meets for up to 10 minutes. Have Google Classroom stream open for further instructions.

  • If a teacher has an interruption in their internet connection, remain in Google Meets session while checking the stream for further instructions.

  • If a student is experiencing interruptions in internet connectivity and are unable to connect, they must contact the teacher as soon as possible. Students can email teachers.

REMEMBER

  • Each teacher will have other SPECIFIC guidelines for how they would like students to participate during the online session

  • If a student does not have adequate technology at home, they need to let the school know as soon as possible

  • If a student has an unforeseen circumstance that prevents them from attending online class or completing an assignment, they must contact the school immediately. Call the front office or email the teacher or counselor

  • Students are expected to behave accordingly online as well as face-to-face
