As you come home and lie in your bed, press play with your earbuds in, you feel all of your troubles melt away. I think this is something familiar that we can all relate to. Music can resonate with you in a way no person will be able to. While, we may not be able to put the way we are feeling into words, music can be the piece of the puzzle that we were missing. No matter what point in your life you are in or how you are feeling, music can turn your lows into the best highs. Music can take you to places unimaginable. It can change your mood, your day and even your life. In ways big and small.
And for the seldom of music lovers, music can change your life so much so, that a career can be made. Our very own Marcus Sarmiento, a senior, is one of those few. Known as “Sir Marcus”, in the music industry at just 17, he is signed to Kapena records and has just released his first song called “Unbreakable”! You may have his song on FM KCCN 100.3! Since the release, his song has stayed at top 5 amongst well known artists such as Common Kings (Ragamuffin), B.E.T (Pacfic Time Zone), Akoni(I’ll be your vacation), and Chante (Next to you). We were able to catch up with Marcus and his music career.
Whats your music story?
I started singing when I was really young and I wasn't good at any sport so I just started doing music.
When did you first start finding a love for music.
When I first started playing ukulele I was 11.
Who is biggest inspiration for music?
My biggest Inspirations are Kelly De Lima, willie k, karlie G and kolohe Kai.
Where do u want ur music to go / what do u want to do with ur music / what do u want it to represent
I want my music to go everywhere. I want it to help people that are going through a hard time and also for the people who have a hard time expressing how they feel.
Where has ur music gone so far
Its still pretty early in my career but I would say that it's gone farther than i expected it to.
We at Ka Leo o Kalaheo, are hoping to see Marcus’ music go as far as the stars. To us, he already is one. Marcus’ story serves as a testament to all of us who feel as though our passions or dreams can never be accomplished. Who would have thought that a kid still in highschool would be able to become a climbing hit on the radio? And this is just the beginning of his career. There is so much more to come and so much more to be explored in the career of Sir Marcus. So please, be sure to take a listen to Marcus’ new song and be on the lookout for many more to come! And until then, never stop listening to music but more importantly, never stop listening to your dreams.
