For my internship at Keiki Caucus, I am tasked to create a project to address the most pressing issue in my community. For Rep. Hussey-Burdick I assist around the office with the various tasks
that they need help with. For now, since I am a newcomer, I am given menial tasks such
as creating a resolution that will be introduced in the 2024 legislature. In the future, I am expected to give oral testimony along with more challenging tasks the more I progress. I chose to apply for this internship because of the community support those in legislation provide. When you want to see a change in the district they [legislators], are the people to call to give assistance to others. They will try their hardest to provide as much support as possible in any way they
can to anyone in our society. I want to lend a hand to support in helping my community in
any way possible-- just like them. What I learned through working with Rep. Hussey- Burdick was the power that the youth held in their hands. In the legislature, there’s a scarce amount
of teens or children participating. Whenever there’s a hearing for a bill, legislators will always lis-
ten to what the youth have to say because the youth are the future and when we students have something to say, it should be heard.
