Marcus Sarimiento, or Sir Marcus, is an up-and-coming artist under the guidance of Kapena DeLima. He graduated from Kalaheo last year. We were lucky to have a second interview with him (see article below) to catch up with him about his second song entitled Sweet Remedy. Last year, everyone in Hawaii was able to listen to Unbreakable, by Sir Marcus which debuted on the popular local radio station, KCCN FM 100 Hawaii. Sweet Remedy is a love song that talks about what it is like to have somebody you can’t get out of your head. Of course we had to start off with the important questions.
Who is this about? “Unfortunately I'd rather not reveal who it's about because it's a very personal thing,” Marcus said with a smile. Yet recording a song, let alone listening to it on the radio, is a feat many aspiring artists wish to accomplish. We wanted to find out if Sweet Remedy’s process was anything similar to Unbreakable. “The recording process was a little different than the last song because we had already planned on what we wanted the finished song to sound like.” Still, Sir Marcus recounts first performing Sweet Remedy. Where it all began, At Kalaheo. “The funny thing is that Sweet Remedy came before Unbreakable, I remember I sang Sweet Remedy for last year's talent show before Unbreakable even came out.”
He gives more insight on the song and said it is a part of a “bigger project.” The songs were written alongside each other. There was a slight change of plans because Unbreakable was further in the recording process than Sweet Remedy. It was me, Kapena, and my other producer, Ambrose”.Kapena is one of the top Hawaii bands. Led by Mr. Kelly Boy Delima who has a repertoire of over 20 albums starting from the 1980s till now. Ambrose is a producer and bass player who has worked with many local artists, including the popular singer, Eli Mac who got her start on American Idol in the early 2000s. Despite working with music giants, Sir Marcus fits in perfectly.
“It's really fun, when the three of us get into the studio, it doesn't feel like work, everything just comes so natural to us because we are able to bounce ideas off each other so easily.”Marcus Provides advice to anyone looking to break into the music industry and working with successful artists. “I would say that I got really really lucky. And Ambrose was really the first to find me. It wasn’t until that first initial recording session with him that he decided to take this to another level and then eventually introduce me to Kapena. I've been working at getting to where I am for a long time. “It's all about making the connections and surrounding yourself with the right people.”
