Hawaii Department of Education

Google Information

Welcome to the HIDOE Google information site

We’re pleased to announce that the Hawaii Department of Education is migrating from Lotus Notes to G Suite. G Suite is Google's integrated suite of secure, cloud-based collaboration and productivity apps.

The Office of Information Technology Services has been working on the migration and is looking forward to moving employees from Lotus Notes to the new services in the coming months.

So WHY are we migrating off of Lotus Notes:

            • More familiar to users so it has a lower learning curve.
            • It integrates with other software tools and applications available to our district.
            • Overall, it is simpler and more user-friendly regardless of the device you are using.
            • A key benefit of the G Suite is that we can access email, contacts, and calendar from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection, anywhere in the world

WHAT will be available and when:

            • Email, calendars and contacts will be copied from Lotus Notes to G Suite first.
            • All HIDOE employees will have their new G Suite accounts on May 1, 2019.
            • Google will be the official email for DOE work and communication as of Summer 2019.
            • Every student will also be given a G Suite account, starting in Summer 2020.
            • Starting during the 2019-2020 school year and continuing over the next 2 years, data will be migrated from school G Suite accounts to the new HIDOE G Suite accounts.
