An introductory course designed to introduce students to the materials and techniques of weaving, hand sewing, felting, fabric collage, basketry, papermaking, and other experimental fiber and textile design processes. Cultural, historic, and aesthetic aspects of these processes will be incorporated, as well as experiences in art criticism. Students will learn techniques developed and used by various world cultures. The objective of the class is to introduce techniques as well as a cultural and historical understanding, in order to enable students to create their own artistic vision with a variety of fiber arts in a fine arts context.
