Student Spotlight: Sharayu Josh
By: Lisa and Madeline Shin
Sharayu Josh is a sixth grade student on team 6 East. She is a member of the Wood Hill Gazette staff, an artist, and musician. Recently she was one of the winners of the APS Middle School Science and Engineering Fair. This event was open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in Andover Public Schools. After placing well in that event on March 30 she moved on to the Region IV Middle School Science and Engineering Fair for Massachusetts at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell on Friday, May 3.
Now she’ll compete in the state-wide Middle School Science Fair on May 11 at Worcester Technical High School. The public showcase of exhibits is from 1:30-3:30 if you want to go support Sharayu!
Q: Can you describe yourself?
A: I am an sixth grader in 6 East. I try to try hard in everything I do, but seeing as some things are tedious, it is hard. Sometimes.
Q: What are your interests?
A: I like to do art, and I like basically everything, but social studies. I do not have a special interest in science, but I do have much interests in some fields of science. I really like music, and I play a lot of instruments.
Q: What was your science presentation about?
A: My science presentation was about stain removal. It was a problem because some marketing brands don’t effectively remove them. My solution to this was Clorox, or if you’re not in the house, hand sanitizer. (Clorox is bleach).
Q: How did it feel to win the gold medal and then move on to states in the top ten?
A: Although I felt confused, I was happy to win the medal. I think I gained a lot more confidence, at least in this subject, as well as getting more comfortable around judges.
Q: What do you want to do next?
A: I will participate in the next Science Fair, which is the States, and right now, I have no plan for what I want to do next. However, the States is on May 11, in Worcester, so I would be glad if you could come. You might see some cool things!
