Admissions

Admissions Criteria

In the 2016-2017 school year, MS 51 will screen and rank 5th grade student applicants by using the available SEMS data only, which includes: 4th grade final report card scores, test scores, attendance and punctuality, and academic and personal behaviors. Fifth grade report card information and recommendations will not be reviewed in the process. New this year, (for all District 15 middle schools), MS51 will no longer have access to and will not use information about where an applicant ranked our school on the application.

RUBRIC:

Composite Score: Students will be ranked in order of the highest to the lowest combination of these attribute scores using the following distribution of data.

4th grade final Report Card grades - 45%

Test Scores - 20%

Attendance - 10%

Academic and Personal Behaviors - 25%

(Missing test scores will be replaced with an additional 10% in math and ELA report card grades.)

We anticipate that this composite of student information will allow us to select students who want to attend MS 51 and who also meet the criteria of an accelerated, high school preparatory, middle school curriculum.

Questions regarding admissions can be directed to our Parent Coordinator, Julia Castro.

Reminder: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ATTEND AN OPEN HOUSE TO APPLY!
