As part of measure taken against the spread of the cornonavirus (COVID-19), the rectorate of the University of Jyväskylä has cancelled all public events until the end of June 2020, which includes the Language Education for Social Justice conference.

While we are deeply saddened not to be able to host this conference in Jyväskylä, we understand and support this difficult decision and are looking for ways to move forward. We ask for your patience as we sort out the practicalities, respond to emails, and refocus our efforts on organizing an online event and a publication outlet on the same topic. At the same time, our warmest THANK YOUS go to the members of our organizing committee, our keynote speakers, workshop leaders, and our many wonderful colleagues and students, who have invested a large amount of time and energy in putting this event together. Thank you all!

Fee waiver applications

Language Education for Social Justice aims at promoting equity by waiving conference fees from participants whose presentation has been accepted, but are financially disadvantaged. Overseas participants will be prioritized.

A maximum of 10 waivers may be granted.

Please, send us a short letter by March 8 to, including a realistic estimate of your total travel costs. Please use subject line “Fee waiver”. Waiver applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

Waivers will be partly covered by conference budget and partly by voluntary fees by registered participants.

The waivers are decided by the whole conference Committee. Decisions will be posted to applicants by March 15. In order to ease the process, applicants should not register before receiving the decision.

The waivers are valid only for the successful applicant and may not be transferred to another participant.
