Welcome to California GEAR UP!
Hello! My name is Maria Arias, and I am the GEAR UP School Educational Services Coordinator serving the graduating Class of 2031 at Jurupa Middle School.
I will be working with the Class of 2031 and their families from 8th grade through the summer of 2032, providing ongoing support, resources, and opporunities to help students achieve their academic and career goals.
What is California GEAR UP?
GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs
It's a federally funded college and career readiness program designed to help students prepare for success in high school, college, and future careers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can my student join GEAR UP?
Every 8th grade student in the graduating Class of 2031 is part of the California GEAR UP student cohort.
Is there a cost to receive GEAR UP services?
Students and their families who are enrolled in the feeder school set of Jurupa Middle School - Patriot High School receive services at no-cost.
Will my student ever be removed from GEAR UP?
Students will remain part of the GEAR UP Cohort as long as they are enrolled in the feeder school set of Jurupa Middle School - Patriot High School.
Is every student allowed to participate in GEAR UP events/field trips?
Events/field trips are available to every student in the graduating Class of 2031, but must meet school's eligbitlity for certain events (e.g., college visits, educational field trips, etc).
Eligibility:
No F's
No OCI's
No Off-Campus Suspension
No more than 5 absences
Cannot have 6 or more lunch detentions
For how long will students be receiving services?
Services will conclude at the end of Summer 2032.
