2014 Measure EE funded a partial modernization at West Riverside Elementary. The project scope included construction of a new single point of entry onto campus on 42nd Street with an expanded parking lot. Improvements at the new campus entry point included construction of a new office, library, and two new classroom buildings. In addition, two additional classroom wings were modernized. In addition to the new and renovated work that can be seen on the exterior of these buildings, various utility lines were replaced, and sitework around the campus was complete, including new concrete, asphalt, and landscaping. A highlight of the project included renovation of a historical schoolhouse building that was built in the early 1930s, that stood unoccupied for many years due to the safety and building code upgrades that were required in the space. After the renovation of the space was complete, the district dedicated the historical space to the late Rear Admiral Allen E. "Boot" Hill, a formal West Riverside Elementary student and accomplished pilot in the U.S. Navy. The rear portion of the school campus is still in need of modernization, but currently there is no funding available to complete the additional improvements.
