Chloe Stephens, known to her friends as Sylvie, considers herself a Batesville native, having moved here when she was four and growing up in town. She has had a passion for music since she was young, first starting piano when she was three, and since then has made it her mission to learn as many instruments as she can (and has yet to find an instrument she cannot play). Her favorites thus far would be piano, vocal, and guitar, but she has a particular enjoyment for the odd and strange, like her miniature KORG synthesizer.
Sylvie is a fellow former student of Miss Shannon's Music Studio, and went to school at Batesville, where she enjoyed being a part of the school choir. After graduating early, she spent time travelling and working, and exploring before finally settling back home again in Batesville and spending time working as a substitute teacher for the schools. Sylvie is currently enrolled at Ivy Tech Community College, and plans to eventually transfer to Indiana University to further her education as a teacher.
Music has always been a core part of Sylvie’s life, beginning from a young age. She always jokes that she learned to sing before she could speak, and her home has never been quiet, with music always playing, either from speaker or soul. Sylvie is also a firm believer in the power of art, particularly music’s ability to give voice to what can’t be said. As someone who’s outspoken with advocating for mental health, she recognises how both music and wellness can go hand-in-hand, and hopes to instill not just a passion and love for music in the next generation, but hopefully supply a few tools to face any challenges on the road ahead.
When she isn’t writing her own music or trying to learn another instrument, she’s collecting vinyl records or reading another musician’s biography. She cannot pick a favourite artist, as she has too many and it seems to change on the fly, but her current top-played artists are Kate Bush, Fleetwood Mac, Florence & the Machine, Ghost, Glass Animals, My Chemical Romance, & the Beatles. She considers herself a massive nerd, and thinks it would be fun to be a performer at a Renaissance festival, if it wasn’t for her massive case of stage-fright. Sylvie can usually be found around town walking her beagle with her husband, or playing Dungeons & Dragons at Dice & Needle. She also has a cat who she takes too many pictures of, and will share if asked.
