Juab Sterling Scholars compete for scholarships with other students in the Central Utah region. Students apply in the spring of their junior year (find the application link above) to represent Juab in one of fifteen different categories (see the categories and descriptions here).
Interested students may begin early in their high school career to develop a portfolio showcasing their scholarship (including GPA & ACT), leadership, and community service throughout their high school experience.

How are Sterling Scholars Chosen?
Candidates complete the application, including desired categories, list of accomplishments, and an essay on their unique qualities.
Then submit a printed application, along with a printed transcript from the counseling office, to Mrs. Settle in the library.
Potential scholars are listed by desired category, including GPA & ACT.
All faculty members are invited to a Sterling Scholar meeting where they view portfolios.
At least one representative from each department is present.
Departments choose which students would fit best in their categories, but all teachers provide input.
Often all placements are not made at the meeting. Faculty members take the time to make the most informed decision.
The group works to place the most students in a position to be successful. The goal is to fill all categories with strong candidates.
