This hands-on agricultural mechanics course provides students with foundational skills in metal fabrication and welding techniques essential for careers in agriculture, construction, and industrial trades. Students will work in a fully equipped welding shop to design, plan, and construct functional metal projects while mastering industry-standard welding processes including oxy-acetylene, shielded metal arc welding (SMAW/stick), and metal inert gas (MIG).
Throughout the course, students will develop competencies in:
Safe operation of welding equipment and shop tools
Reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings
Measuring, cutting, and fitting metal materials
Proper joint preparation and welding techniques
Grinding, finishing, and quality control procedures
Project planning and fabrication workflows
Students will apply their skills through progressively complex projects, from basic repairs and small fabrications to larger-scale builds. Emphasis is placed on workplace safety, precision craftsmanship, problem-solving, and professional work habits valued in agricultural and manufacturing industries.Â
