Dear Parent/Carers,

Thank you for supporting us with such a great start to the new academic year. Clearly the big talking point has been the phone pouches. At this point in time I can confidently say that our students have responded extremely well to this change and have clearly understood that phones are now a prohibited item in school. Students have adapted quickly to the pouches and we will continue to check pouches every morning. If your child does not bring a phone to school please can you let us know by filling in the form HERE this will allow us to keep a centralised register for reference and to ensure that other students do not exploit any perceived loophole in our processes and protocols.The pouch must still be brought in as your child will not be excluded in any way from spot checks and it will also ensure that parity is maintained.

One of the other changes we have instigated this year is a 'silent starter' at the beginning of every lesson. This is a research based, impactful strategy that requires all students to work in silence on a given task to establish a calm routine for the beginning of all lessons - this allows for students to practise exam skills, work independently and develop self-regulation under controlled conditions whilst allowing swifter completion of the school registers.

We had such an intense end to the summer term that it would be remiss of me not to now mention the brilliant sports day which, despite the temperatures , was a huge success. This was followed by the return of our Sports Awards evening and the end of term school concert. Both of these occasions were extremely well attended and it was a pleasure to see so many students involved in receiving awards or performing publicly. We also had our annual 12 hour frisbee marathon which raised an astounding £1607.01 for The John King Brain Tumour Foundation and received an award for our on-site environmental work (see below.)

After a record breaking year of outcomes across the board we have yet again returned to school proud and enthused with a stunning new Year 7 cohort joining our ranks and the largest ever intake of Year 12 students.
