Aaniin, Miigwech o-maa gaa-bizhaayin!

Hello! Thank you for coming here!

About

Aaniin, this page was created as a resource for Joseph K. Lumsden Bahweting Anishinaabe School in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Our school is a K - 8 Tribal/Charter school founded to pass on the Anishinaabe language and culture. The historic image above are Anishinaabe fishermen heading up to Bahweting (Baawaating - The place of the rapids). Our school name connects us to the ancient cultural heritage, customs, and traditions of the Anishinaabe.

Cultural Disclaimer

The Anishinaabe people cover the largest geographic area of any tribal people in the United States, and one of the largest in North America. Our information is by no means the definitive guide on history, language, and culture. Our information is a foundation specific to our area passed through various elders and teachers. We hope our resources are helpful as we continue to learn as well.
