(Not to be confused with Zaslav NW of Minsk (Zaslavl', now Zaslawye, Belarus)
One of the oldest cities in Volhynia, the city dates back to the 11th century, formed as a private town on the Horyn river in northwestern Ukraine. Today Izyaslav (formerly Zaslavl) is within Khmelnytskyi Oblast (Province), Shepetivka Raion (region) and was a part of the Volhynia gubernia from 1796 to 1917. After this, it was part of Kamenets-Podolski prior to World War II. Structures of note include a a Roman Catholic cathedral from the 16th century; a palace from the 17th century, and the city walls with a gate and towers. Today ~16,000 people live there, with very few, if any, remaining Jews.
This shows:
the town's name in various languages,
political jurisdictions during different time periods, and
contact information for other researchers interested in this town via the JewishGen Family Finder (JGFF).

Note of Appreciation: Many thanks to Barry Sieger who created the original Zaslav KehilaLinks in 2013. His original work is contained in this site which we hope to continue to build upon.
