Meet the 2024-25 Student Journalists!

Bailin Li is a reporter for the Jayhawk Nest in 8th grade. She is an avid fan of digital art, Japanese style pop music and pop culture. Bailin has been in the Jericho community since 2016 and enjoys reading comics and relaxing at home. She participates in swimming and volleyball, and she plays piano and flute. Journalism offers her a way to tell stories to a community of people, and this is why she is interested in the subject. A favorite memory of hers is going on the Philadelphia trip in 7th grade. Bailin hopes and is striving to become both a future graphic designer and a better version of herself, and is enthusiastic for the D.C. trip in October. 

Catherine Liu is a reporter for the Jayhawk Nest. She enjoys musical theater, art, and skiing. Since she was young, Catherine has always been interested in reading and writing. Her inquisitive nature made her believe she was fit for taking part in the Jericho newspaper. One of her favorite memories at Jericho was the Finding Nemo musical last winter. This year, Catherine is looking forward to participating in the newspaper! 

Seraphina Shi is a reporter for the Jayhawk Nest. During her spare time, she enjoys indulging in multiple books, especially fantasy series, and creating art, such as paintings and sketches. She attends weekend classes for drawing, and occasionally, painting. Journalism has spiked her interest, as it allows her to interact with and learn new things about others. She also enjoys working side by side with her peers in a calm environment. Her favorite JMS memory would be meeting her friends, whom she spends most of her school time with. This year, she is looking forward to the events, especially the Washington DC trip in October. 

Kalia Tan is a reporter for the Jayhawk Nest. She enjoys reading and doing arts & crafts in her spare time, and one thing she likes about journalism is getting to know more about her school and how it works. Her favorite event at JMS so far was the eighth grade DC trip, and she looks forward to graduation.

Annie Tian is a reporter for the Jayhawk Nest. In her spare time, she enjoys playing tennis and spending time with her friends. She was first introduced to journalism by her sister, which promptly allowed her to discover her love for writing and being able to express her opinions and put them out there. Her favorite JMS memory was being able to go on rides and attempt carnival games during homecoming. Annie is looking forward to making new friends and obtaining new knowledge and opportunities this year. An interesting fact is that she has never broken a bone or had a nosebleed before.

Evan Yao is a reporter for the Jayhawk Nest. He especially enjoys singing and acting. He joined Journalism because it gives him a way to express his emotions and feelings. Being in JMS allowed him to meet his friends, learn new things, and having a nice place to study. He is looking forward to graduating 8th grade, and starting a new adventure in high school.
