Fortnite Frenzy

In February 2024, developers at Epic Games released the newest season of Fortnite, building on the game’s previous success and popularity.

This new Fortnite season includes a fully changed battle royale map, where players compete to be the last one standing. The new optional battle pass also includes custom character costumes and accessories, or “skins.” As players complete quests, they can progress through tiers and earn experience points (XP). They can also earn skins, back blings to travel in the game, harvesting tools, emotes, and more. This season contains collaborations with several famous celebrities, such as Mr. Beast, and the new additions to the game were consistent with what many fans were looking for. JMS student and competitive Fortnite player Luke Jung stated, “I was looking forward to much better gameplay and maps and skins. I was also looking forward to buying new skins which recently came in the item shop. I was mostly looking for a better battle royale map so I could play the game.”

Future Fortnite modes (extensions of the game) include Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival. Lego Fortnite contains the same mechanics of the original game, but the characters, map, and other game components are all composed of Legos. Rocket Racing is a collaboration of Fortnite and Rocket League, a car-soccer hybrid game. In Rocket Racing, players compete in car races instead of soccer. In Fortnite Festival, players collaborate to play music with instruments on the main stage, with many quests that reward players with additional XP. 

The collaborations, new game modes, and new map in the most recent Fortnite season created a fun experience for players. New players might find the latest season to be a good entry point to the game. According to Luke Jung, “I would most likely recommend other people to play the new season of Fortnite; it was really fun to play and there were so many other new maps and gamemodes to play in. There were also fun things that the new players could get in the game.”
