Next time you go to Target, you should probably bring a helmet. The infamous Stanley cups have been one of the most popular, and preppy trends for the past year, bringing large crowds for its limited edition releases.
Stanley lovers stampeded to Target to buy its Limited Edition Valentine’s Day Stanley cup, some even resorting to camping and fighting. Although their portable mugs have been around for a while, Stanley’s trendy cups, which range from many different sizes and colors, have seen a recent surge in popularity. For Valentine’s Day, Stanley released two sets of limited edition cups, one a collaboration with Starbucks. Since they have been sold only at Target, many resorted to camping outside, making sure they could get their hands on one.
“It started, I think, on TikTok. That’s the first place I saw it, and of course I had to go order one right away. It was before they became really popular. Then my daughters wanted one, and I couldn’t get one; you couldn’t find them,” says JMS teacher Ms. Trojanowski. Some perks to the bottle are its handle, and its size (the iconic cup with the handle comes in 30- and 40-ounce versions). It holds ice well, and prevents the cubes from melting quickly. The straw also encourages people to drink more water, as opposed to drinking from regular plastic bottles.
Cons to the cup would be its tendency to leak. “I don’t think they're good for sports. My kids all play sports and when they fall over they leak, and unless you have a cover on them, which not many people do, it just leaks all over the place,” Ms. Trojanowski commented. The bottle's tendency to leak can be a real hassle at times for people who are constantly on the go.
With a combination of advantages and drawbacks, Stanley cups have been extremely popular for the past year. As one recent fan remarked, “It’s at Target, correct? Yes, I don’t have one, but I love pink, so I should probably go get one.”
