In 2017, the Kentucky General Assembly passed Senate Bill 159 (2017). The law reads that beginning in July 2018, a student must pass a civics test composed of 100 questions to graduate from a public high school with a regular diploma. Each local board of education will prepare or approve an exam that must be composed of questions from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services test. Students must score 60% or higher and may retake the exam as often as necessary to pass the test.

At Southern, our social studies teachers give the test during class to all of their students who need it. If a senior is not enrolled in a social studies class and they have not yet passed the test, they will be tested by the Building Assessment Coordinator at school.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service posted the official list of 100 civics questions on the naturalization test as well as free study materials. You can also find resources in several languages under the Other Languages tab. Click the links to the right to access these materials.
