"Choir has allowed me to make new friends and explore different cultures through music. It has opened up significant opportunities, such as singing for the news and other events. Additionally, it encourages me to speak out and be more open, which helps in forming new friendships."
"Choir is special to me because it's a safe space where you and your friends can come together to express emotions, strength, and unity through song."
"Choir is special because it teaches students valuable leadership and collaboration skills. It brings kids together to create meaningful music. Being part of choir has truly helped me gain confidence and step out of my shell. I love choir so much!"
Students who are enrolled in choir at Johnson Traditional Middle School work together to build a sense of community and choral excellence. Students spend each class improving their music literacy skills and singing with healthy vocal technique, as well as preparing for performances to demonstrate their learning in front of live audiences. All students are provided with a sense of belonging and space for artistic expression.
 Foundations of Johnson Choir
Collaboration is a key foundation of our choir program, and is essential for creating a harmonious and supportive environment where students can thrive musically and socially. When students work together, they learn to listen to one another, blend their voices, and develop a sense of teamwork that extends beyond music. Though group rehearsals, students share ideas, offer and receive constructive feedback, and encourage each other to improve their vocal skills. This collaborative spirit not only enhances their musical performance, but also fosters friendships. As students prepare for concerts and performances, they learn the importance of relying on one another, celebrating their collective achievements, and finding joy in their shared passion of singing and making music.
Respect in our choir program is crucial for creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere where all students feel valued and motivated to participate. When choir members show respect for each other's opinions, abilities, and contributions, it fosters a sense of belonging and encourages open communication. Students learn to appreciate diverse musical styles and perspectives, which enriches their overall experience. Respecting Mr. Claussen's guidance and the rules/expectations of the rehearsal space also helps maintain a focused environment where everyone can learn and grow. By cultivating respect, students not only improve their musical skills but also develop important life skills that will benefit them in and out of the classroom.
Dedication in our choir program plays a vital role in shaping students' musical journeys and personal growth. When students commit to regular practice and attend rehearsals consistently, they not only improve their vocal skills but also demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility and perseverance. Furthermore, when students see their peers working hard and striving for excellence, it inspires them to elevate their own efforts, creating a culture of commitment within the choir. As they prepare for concerts and performances, this dedication fosters teamwork and a shared passion for music, helping students build lasting friendships and memories along the way.
