When Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) buildings are closed due to inclement weather or other reasons, the school district may move to Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI). NTI is remote learning that allows teachers and students to use laptops, Chromebooks, and other technology to continue teaching and learning at home.
When JCPS notifies families that in-person classes are canceled, it will also inform families if NTI is employed on that day. If so, students will be expected to use their devices to connect with their teachers and continue their lessons.
JCPS is now an Everyone:1 district for technology, meaning that every student has access to a device to log in to their Google Classroom, see their assignments, and communicate with their teachers.
If inclement weather or another event is anticipated that might result in school closing, schools will send students home with devices that they could use for NTI while school buildings are closed.
Every student should know how to log in to their Google Classroom. Their classroom will have messages, lessons, and other information from teachers.
If your child is having difficulty logging in to the Google Classroom, go to the Students web page and click on Logins and Student Portal or get help from the Parents web page by clicking on Technical Support or Parent Portal. You could also contact your school and find its number on the JCPS School Profiles page.
JCPS Nutrition Services will not operate on NTI days. School buildings will be closed so no school breakfasts or lunches will be served. If JCPS school buildings remain closed for an extended period, the district may set up curbside meal pick-up service at some schools similar to what was offered during the COVID-19 pandemic.
If JCPS moves to NTI, the Early Childhood program will NOT have NTI. This includes a.m. and p.m. enrichment time.
Please call your student’s school if your student doesn’t have their JCPS-issued device for NTI.
Please see our parent flyer for information on how to access language support during NTI days. Please call your student’s school if you need further language assistance.
