Rainbow Clubs are a version of GSAs for elementary schools. Typically, Rainbow Clubs are made up of students and their families, providing a safe space for LGBTQ+ students, families, and allies to play games, hang out, and connect.
One JCPS elementary school's first Rainbow Club was held after school in the library; hot chocolate was served (it was in December). Students and family members practiced introducing themselves with their preferred pronouns. Participants also made greeting cards for patients and staff at a local hospital. Students and family members also gave input into the type of activities they'd like to see at future Rainbow Clubs.
Below are some resources to get you started. If you're interested in learning more about Rainbow Clubs and/or starting one at your school, contact Catherine Graber at catherine.graber@jefferson.kyschools.us or Jack Jacobs at jack.jacobs2@jefferson.kyschools.us for more info and/or ideas.
