Planning your ILP System

7 Steps for planning your ILP System:

Schools will use a Google Classroom to facilitate ILP work. You have a decision to make - Do you want . . .

As you make this decision, keep in mind:

1. A teacher/counselor/advisor from the school must review and approve each ILP annually. So, if you choose to have ONE google classroom, you will have a large number of students to sort through.

2. ILPs must be readily available to students, parents, ECE staff facilitating ARC meetings, and Transition Readiness office.

3. Using the teachers' existing Google Classrooms is a wonderful way to have the teachers advise and monitor students as they work through their ILPs. I highly encourage you to have teachers sign up for an ILP session to learn how to add the ILP assignment into the Google Classroom with correct sharing permissions.  Please be aware that your ECE staff, ILP leads, etc. will need to be added as a co-teacher to the teacher's google classroom, which is sometimes an issue.

3. Using Infinite Campus to Add Students and Create the Google Classroom

Once you have made your decision, use Infinite Campus to create sections for the ILP Classroom course and add students to your sections. Example: If you have decided to use grade level google classrooms, you would add all students in one particular grade to one section and so on.  Instructions here.

Once you have added your students, a google classroom with be automatically generated for you. You will find this google classroom by clicking on your waffle and then Classroom.

4. ILP Document

Next, you will decide if you want to use the district ILP templates or modify to meet the needs of your school/students. If you modify, please be sure to share with Brooke Stone for approval.

All templates can be customized with your school name, colors, and career exploration preferences.

🔹   MIDDLE SCHOOLS   🔹

Please note: If you are planning to use the same ILP form you used last year, make a copy first and then remove the old completion survey and add the new. This new, fresh document is the one you will add to your Google Classroom(s).

🔹    HIGH SCHOOLS    🔹

High schools will be using the Pathful Explore platform for ILPs. This looks different at each school so please contact Brooke Stone for assistance in getting set up in Pathful.

There are some exceptions to this, such as Newcomer, state agency schools, etc. Below are the traditional ILP templates that can be continued to use.

Here are some sample templates that you can use as-is or customize for your school. The new ILP completion survey is already embedded into these documents below.

12th Grade ILP

🔹   ALTERNATIVE, SPECIAL & STATE AGENCY  SCHOOLS   🔹

The templates above can be adapted to meet the needs of your school. For example, if your school includes 6th - 12th grade, you can combine templates to create the best ILP for your students. Brooke Stone is available to work with you to create your ILP.

5. Adding the ILP document to the Google Classroom as an assignment

Use this set of instructions to walk you through how to add the ILP into the Google Classroom. Pay careful attention to step 8 which will show you how to automatically create an ILP for every student. This eliminates the need for the students to make their own copies.

6. Tracking ILP Completion

It is VERY important that all student ILPs are readily accessible and reviewed by a school staff member.  In order to accomplish this, middle schools will use their Google Classrooms for their ILP system. Google Classroom allows a staff member to quickly access a student's ILP. High schools will be tracked through reports in Pathful Explore.

If you use the grade specific ILP templates above, this survey is already embedded in the documents.

If you choose to customize the ILP document, please make sure this survey is embedded as the final step in your document.

7. Ensuring ILPs are accessible to ECE staff as they prepare for ARC meetings

Add ECE teachers and staff (who service students 8th grade/age 14+) to the ILP Google Classroom to ensure they have access to all ILPs. They will need access to the ILP as they prepare for the transition piece of ARC meetings. For high schools, they will be able to access this through Pathful Explore.
