Meet the Team
I am an energetic and enthusiastic person. I was born and raised in upstate New York and moved to Colorado in 2005. As a wife and mother of 3 children, Brianna, Aidan, and Mikaela, I am quite busy and enjoy every moment of it. Most of my free time is spent with my family going to museums and festivals, working on our home, and playing board games. I also enjoy many of the outdoor activities that Colorado has to offer including golfing almost year round. In addition, I come from a large extended family, which the majority of them live in Colorado, so family gatherings are a regular occurrence and often result in hours of family fun.
After having a great teacher in first grade, I knew I wanted to be a teacher and have a positive impact on children. I began college in 1996 and completed my Bachelor’s degree in 2008. While going to school, I worked several odd jobs including dog training, retail management, and daycare teacher.
Shortly upon beginning my teaching career, I found a passion in students who were gifted and thus chose to continue my education and received a Masters in Gifted and Talented education in 2011. Since then the need to further my learning has lead me on a path back to school where I completed a graduate degree in Instructional Technology at Regis University.
I have been blessed to be a member of the Westridge team since 2010.
I have been in many roles throughout Westridge as a parent for 11 years, room parent for many of those years, a substitute teacher for 3 years, and some para and grant work as well. I am excited to now be full time staff with this amazing 6th grade team.
I started my teaching career after graduating from the University of Northern Colorado in 5th and 6th grade, and then was blessed to be able to stay at home to raise my three children, Ryan, Kylie and Evan. When my youngest was is kindergarten I decided it was the perfect time for me to head back to work, and back to school. I began to substitute teach several days a week and to start on my Master's degree through Adams State University, which I completed in November of 2017.
In my spare time you will see my family and I at many sporting events around the area. All 3 of my children participate in sports year round and my husband or I coach something during every season! We also love to travel and try to get in a couple of trips a year as a family whether it be sports related or just a vacation! During any free time that I can find I love to loose myself in a good book or spend time scrapbooking our family memories!
As a native to Colorado, a Jeffco student, and a parent of Jeffco kids I understand how important a teacher can be in the life of their students. I am thankful for the opportunity I have to get to know, to teach and to be a part of student's lives that come into my classroom!
I am an "old-timer" at Westridge, having become a member of the school staff in 1994, and have been here ever since. Such an old timer in fact, that several former students are now teachers at Westridge as well! Having grown up as a "Jeffco Kid" and attending Normandy Elementary, Ken Caryl Middle, and Columbine High School, I have a deep belief in the power of public education.
I come from a long line of educators, and am often heard to declare that being a teacher is literally in my genes!
Travel and culture are special loves of mine, and I have been fortunate to see many special and unique places in the world from Europe to Asia. I spent time as a teacher in Fukushima, Japan, truly a life changing and eye opening experience.
I hold dual bachelors degrees from The University of Colorado at Boulder in History and Archaeology and a Masters in Curriculum Design.
You can often find me with my nose buried in a great book, knitting madly on a special project, or visiting a museum, zoo, or festival and finding new things to learn at every opportunity.
At the end of each school day, we as a classroom community reflect on two questions: "Were you kind?" and "Did you work hard?" Being able to answer in the affirmative is proof positive of a great day!
