Mrs. Olis

Welcome to fifth grade at Westridge Elementary School! I'm delighted to be your child's teacher and look forward to meeting and working with all my new students and their families this year. Together with my fabulous teammate Heather Gee, we have a fun, inspiring, and challenging 2017-2018 school year ahead.

A little bit about me...

I was born and raised in Park Ridge, Illinois, a suburb just west of Chicago. After high school, I attended a small liberal arts college in Wisconsin where I received my elementary education certification and earned a BS degree in Science for Elementary Teaching. I've lived most of my adult life in the Midwest teaching many different levels over the years including middle school science and preschool. Teaching somewhere in the middle is the right place for me. I absolutely love 5th and 6th graders!

This is my fifth year at Westridge teaching 5th and 6th graders in both the general and GT classrooms. Five years ago I taught with Heather Gee, 6th grade GT center teacher, and acquired my endorsement in Gifted and Talented education.

Eight years ago, my family moved to the Green Mountain area when my husband was offered a job at NREL in Golden. As a family we have come to love all the awesome outdoor activities and beautiful scenery that Colorado has to offer and we've taken full advantage of them. Now, I consider myself a skier and biker (not very good at either, but I manage) hiker, and camper. Fortunately my husband Dan, my son Will (age 19) and daughter Olivia (age 12) like the same outdoor activities and we spend many weekends together having fun.

When I have time and want to relax, I enjoy yoga, reading, skiing, gardening, cooking for my family and friends, and planning parties. (I was an event planner for a few years when my children were younger.)

Being a teacher at Westridge is deeply rewarding. I'm a lucky teacher indeed to be surrounded by smart creative colleagues, awesome children and families, and a wonderful supportive administration. Westridge is more than a school-it's a family. I'm honored to be part of this community and firmly believe that the success of children is built on strong partnerships between home and school where learners feel respected and a curiosity and passion for learning is cultivated. Thank you for allowing me to be your child's teacher. An amazing journey awaits all of us!
