I loved school. And aside from being a back-up singer, all I really wanted to do was be an elementary school teacher. A proud K-12 Jeffco student, I went to Golden High School and then on to Colorado State University where I majored in Human Development and Family Studies. My teaching degree is from Metropolitan State College, and I then earned my Masters in Elementary Education at UCD, later adding a certificate in gifted education. My experience spans preschool through sixth grade.
Although I have taught first, third, fifth, and sixth grades after returning from time as a full-time mom with my children, I am very excited to switch to fourth grade this year--actually the first grade I taught back in 1990.
My personal life will experience a transition this year. My son has graduated college with a Sport Management and Marketing degree and is working as a tennis pro. My daughter graduated from Dakota Ridge, and will be attending art school in Minnesota. So, it will be my (athletic, computer geek) husband and I at home on our own. Of course, filling time is easy: jogging and walking, gardening, DIY house projects, learning at museums, playing the piano, and I might even try painting. Abstract, of course. We enjoy caring for our cat and tortoises, as well.
After teaching over 20 years, I still love school. Learning and sharing new things still gives me a thrill. Each year, I strive to influence the students around me to embrace the wonder and excitement of learning-- the greatest pleasure of teaching.
