BUTTERFLY PAVILION SUMMER VOLUNTEERS
Butterfly Pavilion would like to get the word out to your students about our summer volunteer program for teens. It’s a great opportunity for youth age 13-17 to learn leadership and job skills, work alongside their peers and gain knowledge about conservation, invertebrates and the local and global environment.
The application deadline is April 20th, so that we can interview the students and get them oriented before the summer begins. Please share the attached flyer with your students, and feel free to send me any questions you have.

More Info: The Chick-fil-A Leader Academy has been busy planning an impact project for the spring and landed on the idea of hosting a healthy, fun environment for students to unwind after they take the PSAT/SAT test on the afternoon of April 10th. One of their goals through hosting this event is to unite the RV community in light of recent events related to school shootings. As we brainstormed how to do this, the idea of RV clubs joining in on the fun seemed like a great way to get more students involved.
In addition to some larger more competitive events, we are planning on having a carnival like atmosphere in the grassy area outside of the cafeteria from 1:30-3:00 on the afternoon of April 10th. We are asking any clubs that are interested in participating in this event to create a carnival game booth to host for this time. Clubs would be responsible for creating their game, manning the booth, and cleanup after the event. Prizes would be at your discretion (We will plan on giving a piece of candy to winners of our booth).

Other details: Dr. Jason Glass will be having a community meeting at RV on Monday, January 29. The coordinators of the meeting have asked to have some NHS students that would be willing to volunteer for childcare that evening from 5:00 to 7:30 pm while their parents are attending this meeting. It is entirely possible there will be no young children needing the childcare and your volunteers could leave after 30 minutes if there is no need. (BUT you could still log 2.5 hours for NHS)

“Thank you for your interest in helping with our upcoming event. The Miracles for Mito dinner and silent auction will be held at the Forney Museum of Transportation in Denver. We need help setting up for the dinner, throughout the night and cleaning up after the event.
Set up includes: setting up all tables, chairs, linens, silent auction items, etc.
Event tasks include: assisting with registration, silent auction check out, clearing dishes/glasses, restocking, misc food/drink items, etc.
Clean up includes: clearing all dishes/glasses, breaking down and storing tables and chairs, cleaning up linens, etc.
Dress code for setup and clean up is something comfortable that may get a little dusty. Clothing for the evening will be black pants/skirt and a white shirt.

ELEMENTARY SCIENCE FAIR JUDGES NEEDED
Van Arsdale Elementary will be holding their annual Science Fair on Friday, February 19 in the school gym. The Science Fair will be open for viewing by families between 4:30 – 7:30 pm on Friday, February 16, 2018. Science demonstrations and judging will take place from 4:30 – 6:00 pm. The glider contest will take place following judging completion at approximately 6:00 pm. Awards will immediately follow the glider contest at approximately 7:00 pm.
Judges are needed to assess the projects using a prepared questionnaire, scientific expertise/interest is not necessary, but certainly a bonus! We could also use help during the glider contest as well as general help (may be judging, may be assisting kids with the science scavenger hunt, may be assisting adult science demo presenters, may be helping with pizza sales, clean-up, etc.). Feel free to sign-up for the first or second shift or both, but we will mostly need judging help (first shift).

What: a Spheros scrimmage. We're looking for responsible high schoolers, hence my plea to the NHS at RV, to referee/judge the different Sphero challenges we have. No prior training is required. We need 8-10 students. They would need to provide their own transportation and their own lunch/snacks. We need to know who can help us by Tuesday, Nov. 28. Would there be students interested in this?

The 43rd annual 9NEWS Parade of Lights is quickly approaching. Mark your calendar for December 1st and 2nd to plan to be a part of the Rocky Mountain region’s largest holiday celebration!
Volunteers are an essential part of the parade and vital to the overall success of the event. We rely on volunteers for costume characters, balloon handlers, banner carriers, and much more. The parade is a great opportunity for school organizations to have a fun opportunity to volunteer together. Groups like Student Councils, Key Clubs, IB, FCLA, FBLA, DECA and NHS and multiple sports teams have all joined in the fun for many years, and we want to offer this unique opportunity to your group also!
Attached is a list of opportunities that can accommodate large groups or smaller groups. We do our best to place groups in their first preference, but we ask that you be flexible with us. Please note that we must have a filled out online application for each person that wants to participate (But make sure they all write the same group). More: I've had many high school volunteers from your schools in the past, and I've found it to be a very successful, and powerful way to build connections between our high school students and elementary school students that may be feeding into your buildings someday. I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me with this endeavor, even if that's just directing me to a student council leader, coach/sports team, honor society leaders etc. Volunteers will be provided lunch, refreshments and a day full of fun!
