Week 12: 11/1-11/5

We returned to the Art Room (Secondary Ceramics Room) this week to begin Art Unit 1: Painting. We began by reviewing norms and procedures from our Intro to Art unit in September. We then introduced a few new procedures necessary for the use of paint and assigned new Materials Masters roles. Students each received their own watercolor set and had the opportunity to create 1-2 choice paintings. I encouraged them to use some basic techniques for watercolor, including:

-tickle the paper with the brush (don’t push too hard)

-“work” for lines, using multiple strokes and varying brush pressure

-monitoring cleanliness of water in cups, on brush, and in paint

-taking time to clean and maintain the clarity of each color on the palette

I was out on professional leave on Thursday 11/4 and Friday 11/5, attending the CAEA (Colorado Art Education Association) annual state conference in Breckinridge. I will be exited to share new ideas with students later in the year.
