Students
Students are expected to:
Be honest and reflective of their personal, social, and intellectual behaviors
Be knowledgeable about what and why we learn
Set goals and be self-directed in working towards those goals (with the support of advisors and peers)
Learn collaboratively for the benefit of both the individual and the community
Work hard
Persist in the face of challenges
Trips
We have two big trips:
Chatfield State Park in September.
This is a time for all the members of our community to get to know each other while facing authentic learning experiences outside of the classroom.
YMCA at Snow Mountain Ranch in February.
The Bridges Trip occurs midway between the sixth grader’s academic year and recognizes that our elementary children are soon to become more independent adolescents. Students, advisors, and high-school leaders participate in this trip.
The Voyage
The Voyage is a long-term, self-directed, self-selected project that lets sixth graders apply all of their academic knowledge to a topic they are interested in. Successful participation and completion of the Voyage demonstrates READINESS to move on to the Foundations Program.
Students select their own subjects to research--examining different aspects of their subject to develop papers, artifacts, and a final presentation displaying their work.
The Voyage is the JOURNEY: the whole process! Not just the work they present.
