Hello There, Music Lovers!
We have a little bit of everything for secondary students. Not every class is taught each semester- it depends on student interest and the current direction of the music program. Some classes that have been offered include:
AUDIO ENGINEERING: This class is all about music production and sound engineering. These students become masters of our Open Mic recording studio!
ADVANCED AUDIO ENGINEERING: This class takes music production to the next level by creating an all-school album, incorporating advanced engineering techniques and skills.
HISTORY OF HIP-HOP: This class that delves into the emergence of hip-hop culture.
COMPANY: This is our show choir where students sing and dance on stage. This is a prerequisite to participate in the secondary musical. We put on a full-scale musical each year. Previous shows have been: Matilda, High School Musical, School House Rock, Mary Poppins, Pippin, Shrek, Grease, The Sound of Music, and Little Shop of Horrors.
SCHOOL OF ROCK: This class studies and performs music across all genres. All instruments are welcome!
MARIMBA BAND: Our infectious, Zimbabwean marimba band will make you want to get up and dance! All of our marimbas have been student made and students learn how to play them. There is a beginning marimba band, Super Marimbros, and an advanced group, Marimbatallica.
BAND: Our intermediate group for band instruments. Perfect for students coming from elementary school or students wishing to brush up on their technique. This group participates in the May Elitch Gardens Music Festival.
ORCHESTRA: Our intermediate group for string instruments. Perfect for students coming from elementary school or students wishing to brush up on their technique. This group participates in the May Elitch Gardens Music Festival.
BORCHESTRA:Â Our advanced, mixed ensemble of both band and orchestral instruments. Perfect for students who take private lessons and students with a solid music technique foundation. This group participates in the May Elitch Gardens Music Festival.
CHOIR: For students who love to sing we have a choir that explores all genres of music. This group participates in the May Elitch Gardens Music Festival.
HISTORY OF ROCK-N-ROLL: The class that delves into music and artists from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s.
SONGWRITING: For aspiring composers and songwriters this class supports you in your creative journey. Students also learn basic music theory.
BLUEGRASS JAM: This class studies and performs bluegrass music. All instruments are welcome!
MUSIC THEORY: A traditional music theory class for all music levels.
