Company/Organization Description:
Going to space is just the beginning. It’s what you do when you get there that matters. We build satellites and spacecraft that do amazing things in space for government and commercial customers. Lockheed Martin-built satellites give earlier warning of severe weather, connect troops on the battlefield, and deliver GPS directions to a billion people worldwide. As we look to the future, we’re driving innovations to help our customers do even more in orbit. That’s why we’re designing smarter satellites that operate like smartphones in the sky, with apps that can be updated in orbit so they can adapt as mission needs on the ground change. Your mission is ours. And as that mission evolves, we’ll be ready.

Internship Description:
Interns will be assigned to a small group to work with Lockheed Martin mentors to create a project plan for a space-related project. The assigned groups will meet with their mentor weekly to check on progress, present ideas, and learn from industry professionals. Mentors will guide the groups and provide expertise on various aspects related to the project planning.
Interns will be introduced to subject matter experts in order to think critically in the framework of engineering and aerospace exploration while developing skills such as problem-solving, systems thinking, project management, public speaking, research skills, engineering tool literacy, teamwork, planning, trade studies, CONOPS, self-advocacy, and goal setting.
Students will meet 3-4 times per week with their assigned group. This can be a combination of virtual meetings, on-site work, and shared documents. Each student will have responsibilities to contribute to the group’s project.
The final projects will be presented to a group of Lockheed Martin professionals as if the group was seeking funding for the project. Limited family and friends are invited to the Lockheed Martin campus to attend the final presentations.
