Mission & Objectives
The Mission of the Business Program at Evergreen High School is to Provide a Practical Education in Business and Personal Finance
In general, the program seeks to:
- Introduce to students a variety of business, economic and financial topics to provide basic familiarity and the ability to assess whether interested in business as a career or field of study;
- Develop common workplace skills, including teaming, business software, project/time management, and return on investment;
- Enable deeper insight into specific business topics, e.g., personal & corporate finance, entrepreneurship, accounting and marketing.
- Provide additional business skills and knowledge through a co-curricular approach to DECA and the Investment Club.
The skills and specific knowledge that students gain should be useful in nearly any field they may enter.
Distributive Education Clubs of America ("DECA") is the Career Technical Student Organization that offered by the Business department. DECA is an integral, co-curricular component of the Business program at Evergreen High School. DECA serves as a means to enhance classroom instruction while helping students develop leadership abilities, expand workplace-readiness skills, and broaden opportunities for personal and professional growth. Students are encouraged to join and participate in DECA, which also requires enrollment in a Business class. See the DECA page in this Business website, www.deca.org, and Mr. Newkirk for additional information.
