EHS WEEKLY MESSENGER

September 26th, 2021

NEWS & UPCOMING EVENTS

Hello Cougar Families and Happy Sunday,

Mr. Cory Goshorn, our new instrumental music teacher and Marching Band director, led the Cougars into competition at the Jeffco Marching Band Festival this week. The Cougar Marching Band placed 3rd in 4A competition. Great job Marching Cougs! Best of luck in remaining competitions and we’re looking forward to the halftime performance at next week’s Homecoming Football game.

Also, I’d like to thank parents who discussed last week’s special messenger regarding student conduct with their student(s). However, we are continuing to see far too many discipline problems. These issues are occurring primarily with 9th and 10th grade students, almost without exception. We will continue to address these issues with firm consequences and positive school culture-building. I’m confident that by continuing to be vigilant, we can help these groups of students understand the behavioral expectations at Evergreen High School.

At this time, it would be helpful for parents to discuss the importance of punctuality – getting to class on time – and good attendance. Thank you for your support in reiterating this message at home.

Next week’s Homecoming activities are shaping up to be epic – look for some great pictures in here next week and on social media!

Thank you Cougar Parents,

Brandon Brekke and EHS School Leadership

Cory Goshorn, Instrumental Music Teacher and Band Director

October Count

It’s official – October Count Day this year is THIS Friday, October 1. The most important action you can take to support school funding is to make sure your student attends school this Friday. Much of public education funding from the State of Colorado is based on student count so we encourage you to be sure your child engages in school that day.

The “count window” the state observes is from this Friday, September 24 through Friday, October 8 but the most important student count day is this Friday, October 1. Please help us ensure an accurate count by having your student participate in learning that day.

Due to COVID-19 and adhering to public health guidelines, if your child will be absent on October 1 due to illness, call our attendance line, 303.982.5140 to report the absence. Attendance during the “count window” will help counteract an absence on October 1.

Thank you for your support of Evergreen High School. Every child counts!

Debunking Suicide Prevention Myths

Talking to someone about suicide will increase the chances that they will act on it—true or false? False. The truth is when someone directly asks someone who is in crisis or depressed, if he or she is thinking about suicide it can help. Giving a person an opportunity to open up and share their troubles can help alleviate their pain and open a path to solutions. SHARE what YOU know and Pass it On.

In addition, the Counseling Department will be presenting to all EHS students about Suicide Prevention and Education. 9th & 10th graders are scheduled for the week of September 30th and 11th & 12th graders are scheduled for mid-October. #EveryPersonEveryDay #BetterTogether

West Area Transportation

Consider Joining #TeamJeffco as a bus driver

As mentioned, hiring bus drivers is one of our district’s most challenging tasks. A CDL-BPS license is required, but as long as a candidate has a clean driving record, can pass a background check, a CO Department of Transportation physical, and a drug test, the district will help with training and testing to get the appropriate license. Drivers generally work split shifts, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. A 30-hour per week position qualifies for full benefits and offers opportunities to add field trips and athletic trips.

Our drivers are treasured by our students and families! Consider this opportunity to join #TeamJeffco. Know somebody who might be interested? Let everyone know we are hiring.

Substitute Kitchen Workers

Want to help in the kitchens but still be able to attend your child's field trip? Looking for a way to contribute one or two days a week, but not ready to commit full-time? Consider being a substitute in our kitchens! Pay is $15/hour - pick your schedule!

Invest in EHS Day

The Evergreen High School Education Foundation is a non-profit, parent/teacher organization that raises funds to support EHS's outstanding educational programs and helps ensure the academic success of all students.

INVEST in EHS Day will be October 18th this year. Click HERE for more information on our annual fundraising event.

JOIN PTSA

Please help us increase our members and join PTSA. We understand how busy everyone is with the start of a new school year. We would appreciate you taking the time to view our PTSA page (EHS PTSA.nationbuilder.com) and join today.

HOCO Tailgate

PTSA will be hosting a concession stand at the Homecoming Game Tailgate Party on October 1st from 5:30 to 6:30! We will have hot dogs, sodas, and other snacks available for purchase. Make sure you come out ready to eat and cheer on our Cougs!
