EHS WEEKLY MESSENGER

January 30th, 2022

NEWS & UPCOMING EVENTS

Hello Cougar Families and Happy Sunday!

Our STEM Senior Capstone students successfully launched their weather balloons to the edge of space on Friday. Shout out to teachers Stephanie Seevers and Ann Thomas for their leadership and support of these kids, and to the EHSEF for their financial support.

Here at EHS we are always looking to offer innovative programming and opportunities for our students. Follow us on Instagram @ ehs__cougars (that’s two underscores) for regular posts about all-things-EHS. Take a look at a recent one here of Mrs. Ali Meyers delivering a lesson on the importance of personal values in making decisions about the future.

Have a great weekend Cougar families,

Brandon Brekke and EHS School Leadership

THANK YOU

We want to extend a big thank you to all of the families that donated to and helped with the creation of our staff holiday gift bags. We are so lucky to be a part of a community that truly cares about their students and the school community. Thank you for all of your efforts. Please take a moment to watch the video below from our staff.

Thank You Video

Reminder: Closed Campus for Underclassmen

It is quite common for High Schools to have closed campuses for underclassmen, or 9th and 10th graders, as we do here EHS. The reasons are based on best practices for school safety and student drivers. Recently we have been seeing more underclassmen than usual sneaking off-campus during lunch. In response, we are increasing the monitoring of students exiting the building during lunch by campus supervisors and administrators. We are also increasing the consequences for students caught violating this rule. The consequence will be an automatic one-day suspension (in-school or out of school, depending on conversation with parent/guardian) and a revocation of the student’s parking pass for a minimum of 4 weeks. If the student does not yet have a parking pass, the revocation will begin when the student attains a pass. Thank you for your support!

Carnegie Hall

Keigan McCabe, EHS Freshman, auditioned for the WorldStrides - Performance Series late summer 2021 and was accepted as finalist on Viola into the High School Honors String Orchestra. He was 1 of 500 students selected out of over 10,000 applicants from around the world. Keigan will join other student performers from 47 states, Australia, Bermuda, China, Guam and South Korea for a special Honors Instrumental performance at the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York City on February 5, after multiple days of practice at Carnegie Hall mixed in with some fun exploring New York City.

It may be a once-a-lifetime experience for him to play at Carnegie Hall. He is proud to be representing Evergreen High School in New York City.

Congratulations Keigan and best of luck this week!

Our lost and found is overflowing already! Please make sure to stop by next week and check for any lost items. The lost and found is just inside the main entrance to the right and down the stairwell.

All items not collected by Friday will be donated to Echo.

Wish Week 2022

It’s time for another Wish Week update, cougars! Wish Week will be held February 14th through the 18th. We hope to raise $7,000 for Make-a-Wish Colorado and amazing kids, like Sloan - our 2022 Wish Kid! In order to raise money for this fabulous cause, we will be holding the annual quarter stall on Tuesday, February 15th. This year we can accept coins and cash as well as online donations. Bring all your spare change to your first period class on Tuesday, 2/15, or donate online via our Make-a-Wish donation page in order to “stall” your first period class on the following Thursday block day. We will continue taking donations by department until Friday, 2/18, and for every $50 raised per department, all classes associated with that department will be stalled for 5 minutes the following week on the 2/24 block day. You could earn a 30-minute stall just for donating your spare change! Last year math, English, science and social studies were all stalled for 45 minutes thanks to the EHS community’s generous donations!

Wish Week will also feature teacher challenges again, where your favorite educators offer to do something mildly embarrassing and definitely fun to raise money for Make-a-Wish. Mr. Meyers and Mr. Oly have graciously offered to dress like princesses with crowns and all if their fundraising goals are met, and Mr. Booth has generously offered to dress in a sloth costume if his goal of $1,000 is achieved. Brave Ms. Shimon has offered to get a buzz cut if her goal is met, and the amazing Ms. Gordon has offered to wear baggy clothing and crocs for hers. Ms. Graham and Mr. Remec agreed to do a TikTok dance together if their totals reach $500 each. Mr. Morris and Mr. Harrison have offered to shave their beloved beards if they raise enough money. Many teachers have offered to get pied in the face at the assembly for the low goals of $150 to $200, and there are even more ideas on the way! Let’s raise money for a great cause with some laughter and these epic teacher challenges!

More details about EHS’s fundraising fun will be provided via the next messenger and ETV episode! We have spirit days and assembly games on the way, and, for the first time in two years, the Cougar Cafe will be reopened. During Wish Week, you can visit your favorite EHS snack spot and purchase some treats and beverages for charity.

Stay tuned to learn how you can donate to Make-A-Wish Colorado, during Wish Week 2022, so wonderful kids like Sloan can have their wishes granted.

All interested parties should apply to Job ID#15290 on the Jeffco Jobs Board.

As the district communicated, we will no longer be sending classroom-based exposure letters, which were not providing families with accurate and reliable information. The most accurate and reliable exposure information can be found on our online district dashboard where cases are reported for every school in the district. Please use that information, in conjunction with COVID test results, to make decisions that are right for your family.

Please continue to reference the CPHE Return to Learn document (English, Spanish) for guidance on what to do following a positive COVID-19 symptom screen. Please remember that mask use is essential in the context of the latest CDC guidance that pairs shorter isolation and quarantine durations. N-95 masks are highly recommended.
