NEWS & UPCOMING EVENTS

It’s that time of the year again – Course Selection

A course selection Google Form has replaced the course card. Formal recommendations for AP/Honors courses as well as math will occur after students have selected their classes. The process will look similar to last school year.

We are still encouraging students and teachers to discuss options prior to selecting classes.

As always, we will encourage students to make thoughtful selections regarding their choices and discuss options with their current teachers. Students will be asked to evaluate their past and current classes and performances, test scores, grades and future career/college goals when selecting classes.

22-23 Course Selection

Attention all 9th and 10th graders!

The counselors will be in Study Halls again on either Monday, February 7 or Tuesday, February 8 to discuss course selection. Please plan your day accordingly. You will not have much work time that day.

  • Monday & Tuesday, February 7th & 8th : 9th & 10thgraders receive course selection information through study hall.

  • Tuesday, February 8th : 11th graders receive course selection information through Homeroom.

  • Friday, February 18th : 9th & 10th graders will complete Google From and Campus entry through Study Hall.

  • Tuesday, February 22nd : 11th graders will complete Google Form and Campus entry through Homeroom.

Wish Week 2022!!

Wish Week 2022 is almost here! Next week, February 7-11, is the last week before Wish Week begins, but we will be starting one of our many fundraisers early! It's called "Buy a Crush for your Crush!" and it starts this upcoming Monday, 2/7. During both A and B lunches for all of next week, talented art students along with the EHS Senate will be selling Crush sodas to be delivered on the following Monday, 2/14- Valentine's Day! Purchase one Crush soda for $2.50 or two for $4.00, and the soda will be delivered to your friend, crush, or significant other during class on Valentine’s Day. Make someone special smile with this tasty treat! All proceeds will go to Make-a-Wish Colorado, so wishes for amazing kids like Sloan, our 2022 Wish Kid, can be granted.

Spirit Days

We hope everyone is getting excited for the Wish Week spirit days! Senators will be walking around, handing out candy to those who are the most spirited each day!

  • The first day of Wish Week is Valentine’s Day, so dress in red or pink or anything festive for the holiday!

  • Tuesday is ski bum day, so rock your favorite skiing or snowboarding gear.

  • Wednesday is anything but a backpack day. Bring your stuff in anything except for the usual backpack.

  • Thursday is jersey day- a great time to represent your favorite team!

  • Friday is class color day, where each grade will dress in one of Sloan's favorite colors for a competition. During the assembly on Friday, February 18th, Sloan will select the grade level dressed with the most spirit, and that grade will win candy! In order to win, freshmen, please all wear red; sophomores, please wear yellow; juniors, please wear turquoise; and seniors, please wear pink! Who will have the most spirit?

Wish Week Assembly

We cannot wait to once again hold the iconic Wish Week assembly! Everyone will get to meet amazing Sloan and students from each grade level will compete in a variety of games! Sloan lives in Evergreen and is very excited to be a part of the assembly! She was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was still in the womb, and she works very hard every day to stay healthy despite her health complications. Her wish is to travel to see animals and by donating to Make-a-Wish Colorado, we can help grant wishes to strong, resilient, and brave kids, like Sloan. The assembly competitions all relate to things that Sloan - and many EHS students - love! She loves red velvet cake, queso and chips, P!nk, Andy Grammer, writing, drawing, painting, Ninja Warrior, and playing the Nintendo Switch! Next week during homeroom, a Google Form will be made available so students can sign up for the assembly games. We are hoping to hold a Ninja Warrior course competition, an epic layup contest, a cake eating race, a lip synching contest, an animal drawing competition, and more! If you have what it takes to win, please sign up! Winners will get medals and gift bags.

Donations?

We have more good news; for the first time in two years, the Cougar Cafe will be reopened! During Wish Week only, you can visit your favorite EHS snack spot and purchase some sweets and beverages for charity.

Remember, we hope to raise $7,000 for Make-a-Wish Colorado and amazing kids, like Sloan. So, you may be asking, how do I donate online? It’s so easy! You go to the Wish Week website, which will be linked on our school website this Monday. Click on the blue “Donate Now” button on the homepage, which will take you directly to the Make-a-Wish Colorado donation page. Once there, you’ll see several fundraiser buttons, including all the quarter stall department buttons and all of the teacher challenge buttons. Just click on whichever specific fundraiser or fundraisers you like and donate using a credit or debit card. It’s super simple! If every student at EHS donated just $5, we would easily meet our goal! If you don’t want to donate online, just bring $5 or your spare change to your first period class on Tuesday, 2/15, for the quarter stall. For every $50 raised per department, all classes associated with that department will be stalled for 5 minutes the following week on the 2/24 block day. Last year Math, English, Science and Social Studies were all stalled for over 30 minutes thanks to the EHS community’s generous donations!

Teacher Challenges

You can also donate to the hilarious teacher challenges, where your favorite educators offer to do something mildly embarrassing and definitely fun to raise money for Make-a-Wish.

  • Mr. Meyers and Mr. Oly have graciously offered to dress like princesses with crowns and all if their fundraising goals are met, and

  • Mr. Booth has generously offered to dress in a sloth costume if his goal of $1,000 is achieved.

  • Brave Ms. Shimon has offered to get a buzz cut if her goal is met, and

  • the amazing Ms. Gordon has offered to wear baggy clothing and crocs for hers.

  • Ms. Graham and Mr. Remec agreed to do a TikTok dance together if their totals reach $500 each.

  • Mr. Morris and Mr. Harrison have offered to shave their beloved beards if they raise enough money.

  • Mr. Benson, Mrs. Thomas, Ms. Lavin, Mr. Brake, Mrs. Mintle, and Mr. Speers have all offered to get pied in the face at the assembly for their goals, and there are even more ideas on the way!

To see all of the teacher challenge options, visit the Wish Week website! Let’s raise money for a great cause with some laughter! Stay tuned to learn how you can donate to Make-A-Wish Colorado during Wish Week 2022, so wonderful kids like Sloan can have their wishes granted!

Reminder: Closed Campus for Underclassmen

It is quite common for High Schools to have closed campuses for underclassmen, or 9th and 10th graders, as we do here EHS. The reasons are based on best practices for school safety and student drivers. Recently we have been seeing more underclassmen than usual sneaking off-campus during lunch. In response, we are increasing the monitoring of students exiting the building during lunch by campus supervisors and administrators. We are also increasing the consequences for students caught violating this rule. The consequence will be an automatic one-day suspension (in-school or out of school, depending on conversation with parent/guardian) and a revocation of the student’s parking pass for a minimum of 4 weeks. If the student does not yet have a parking pass, the revocation will begin when the student attains a pass. Thank you for your support!
