WHY THIS TEXT?

Students will identify the theme of this folktale-inspired drama and distinguish how a theme is different from a topic. As they read, they will be exposed to elements of drama (dialogue, setting, acts/scenes) and will monitor how the events in one scene build on the events from a previous scene. The selection will also provide examples of how literary elements can enhance this type of “performance” literature.
